How to Create a Wi-Fi QR Code (Step by Step)
Updated June 2026 · ~4 min read
A Wi-Fi QR code lets anyone join your network by pointing their camera at a small square — no reading out a long password, no typos. Here is how to make one in under a minute, and how to make sure it scans reliably.
Step 1 — Find your network details
You need three things: your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, your password, and the security type. For almost every modern router that security type is WPA/WPA2. You can find these on the router label or in your router settings.
Step 2 — Generate the code
Open the free Wi-Fi QR Code Generator, type your network name and password, and choose WPA/WPA2. The preview updates instantly. Everything happens in your browser — your password is never sent anywhere or stored.
Step 3 — Download and display it
Download the SVG for the sharpest print, then place the code where guests need it: a guest-room card, the reception desk, a café table, or the fridge. Add a short label like ‘Scan to join our Wi-Fi.’
Make sure it scans
- Keep the code dark on a light background for strong contrast.
- Print it at least 2.5 cm wide.
- Leave clear ‘quiet space’ around the code — do not crowd it with text.
- Test it with both an iPhone and an Android phone before printing a batch.
Is it safe to share?
A Wi-Fi QR code contains your password in plain form, so only display it where you are comfortable people seeing your network access — which is usually the point for guest networks. For sensitive networks, consider a separate guest network instead.
