How to Add a Logo to a QR Code (Without Breaking It)
Updated June 2026 · ~4 min read
A logo in the centre of a QR code looks professional and builds trust — but done carelessly it stops the code scanning. The trick is understanding why it usually still works, and where the limits are.
Why a centre logo can work at all
QR codes have built-in error correction: spare data that lets them be read even when part is obscured. A small centre logo simply uses up some of that headroom. Push too far and there is not enough data left to reconstruct the code.
The safe recipe
- Use the highest error correction level, H (~30%). See error correction levels explained.
- Keep the logo small — covering roughly the central 15% of the area, never more than about a quarter.
- Place it dead centre, away from the three corner finder squares, which must stay intact.
- Give the logo a small solid background pad so it sits cleanly over the modules.
Test before you print
Always scan your finished code with more than one phone, in real lighting, before printing a batch. Add your logo with the Logo tab in any of our QR Code Generator tools, then download an SVG for crisp printing.
